The Race to Space

Sputnik....

Sputnik occurred in the era of the Cold War. In the 1950's Americans wanted to develop a satellite in to orbit. All though Americans were more technological sound than January 31, 1958, the tide changed, when the United States successfully launched Explorer I. e Russians. They still beat us to space. On October 4,1957 the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik.The world's first artificial satellite was about the size of a beach ball . And took about 98 minutes to orbit the Earth on its elliptical path. Then the Soviets struck again on November 3, Sputnik II was launched,carrying a much heavier payload including a dog named Laika. Following Sputnik I launch Americans approved funding for there satellite. On January 31, 1958, the United States successfully gained control and launched Explorer I.

H-Bomb

The Americans were the first to Nation to create the Hydrogen Bomb just like we were the first nation to create the Atomic bomb in the second World war.Edward Teller after developing all the success onthe Manhattan project he was called upon again to create a new bigger and better nuclear bomb! In the 1950's President Truman announced work on d the Hydrogen Bomb was to continue. November 1st, 1952 the U.S detonated a 10.4 megaton hydrogen bomb on the Marshall Pan with the code name "Mike". Later the Soviet Union continue its pursue of creating a hydrogen bomb themselves. There design known as Layered Cake consisted of alternating layers of hydrogen fuels and uranium. O The 12th of August 1953 the Soviets tested there hydrogen bomb on the Central tower of Siberia the bomb had 400 kilotons of energy. There Bomb Wasn't nearly as powerful as the Americans.

When The Domino's start falling.....

The Korean War was one first domino's in the Domino effect that the United States were trying to prevent. The Korean War provided the first confrontation between the two nuclear powers. June 25,1950 the North Koreans crossed the 38th parallel to invade SouthKorea. Kim II-Sung invaded because he was reassured that he would get back-up from Soviet Union leader Stalin. But little did he know that the South Koreans would soon get help form the anti communist United States.

For Your Information......

The Cold War...

This was a war between the United States and the USSR. I chose to be apart of the America side. To be a communist mean to be apart of a government under control a dicator leader. Stalin was the leader of Russia otherwise known as the USSR. The United States believe in containing communism but the Soviet believe they should spread it all through out Europe. Starting with China who liked the idea of spreading communism. While reading my blog you will get a short informational reading about some of the important events in the Cold War.
